Is Era legit? Reviews, security and who's behind it

Is Era legit? See who is behind Era, how it protects your bank data, where to read real reviews, and how to check every claim yourself before you connect.

People search for "Era reviews" and "is Era safe" for a good reason: handing a bank connection to any app, and then to an AI assistant, deserves a proper look first. This page puts the facts in one place, points you to the places where real customers write about Era, and shows you how to check each claim without taking our word for it.

Is Era legit?

Yes. Era is a real company, built by a team from Stripe, Robinhood, Cash App, Apple, Google, SoFi and Coursera, and backed by investors including Northzone, Protagonist and Designer Fund. Its apps are in the App Store and Google Play, its connector is in Claude's directory, and you can check each of those facts yourself in a few minutes.

Who is behind Era?

Era was founded by people from Stripe, Robinhood, Cash App, Apple, Google, SoFi and Coursera, and it is backed by Northzone, Protagonist, Designer Fund, 3KVC, MaC, Clocktower and K5 Global. Its US advisory entity, Era Financial Advisors LLC, is registered with the SEC, and brokerage services, where they apply, run through Alpaca Securities LLC, a FINRA and SIPC member.

You can look up the registration (CRD #334404) in the SEC's adviser search. On 6 May 2026 Era announced its connector for Claude in a BusinessWire release, as the first personal finance connector in Claude's directory. You can find it in the Claude connectors directory, and Era is also listed as an app in ChatGPT and as a connector in Perplexity.

How does Era protect my data?

Your data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit, and every assistant connects through OAuth 2.1, so each one asks for your permission first. Era never stores your bank credentials, never sells your data and never trains AI models on it. You can revoke any assistant instantly, and the activity log shows what each one did.

The full walk-through, from what your AI can see to what never leaves Era, is in is it safe to give AI your financial data.

Where can I read reviews of Era?

Read them on pages that Era does not control. Customers write about Era on Trustpilot, in the App Store and on Google Play, and the community talks to the team and to one another on Reddit. Read the critical reviews as well as the glowing ones, because they tell you what to test first.

How do I check Era for myself?

You can check Era in an afternoon, with no payment details and no bank connection. Create a free account, connect an assistant, read the consent screen, watch the activity log fill up, and then revoke the assistant. Each step below tests one of the claims on this page.

  1. Create a free account at era.app. The Basic plan lets you add manual accounts, which is enough to try everything that follows.
  2. Connect an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT and read the consent screen. It tells you what you are about to allow.
  3. Ask your assistant a question about your accounts, then open the activity log in Era. Every request is listed with the time and the assistant that made it.
  4. Revoke the assistant and ask the same question again. The access is gone straight away.
  5. Look up Era Financial Advisors LLC in the SEC's adviser search, and open Era's listing in your assistant's own directory.

Is Era a bank, and can it move my money?

Era is not a bank and does not hold your deposits. Your money stays with your bank, and Era reads the accounts you choose to connect. Money movement is in private beta, it is off by default for every key, and every transfer needs your approval.

Where does Era work?

Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all. You sign in at your own bank, so the protections you already have there stay in place, and the same Era connection works in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and the other assistants you use.

What if I still have a question?

Write to support@era.app and the team will reply. If your question is about security, say so in the subject line so that it reaches the right person quickly, and ask for whatever evidence you need: the consent screen, the activity log and the public records above are all open to you.
