See your investment holdings in Claude or ChatGPT
Wealthsimple portfolio AI: connect Wealthsimple or Questrade to Era and let Claude or ChatGPT read your TFSA, RRSP and FHSA holdings, cost basis and tax lots.
Yes, you can see your Canadian investments in Claude or ChatGPT. Connect your TFSA, RRSP, FHSA and non-registered accounts to Era, and your assistant reads what you actually hold: each position with its quantity and cost, how it has changed over time, and where your investments sit in your wider financial health. You ask in plain English, and the answer comes from your own accounts.
That goes further than a balance. A balance says what an account is worth today, whereas holdings show what is inside it, what you paid and how it got there.
Can Claude or ChatGPT see my TFSA and my RRSP?
They can once Era sits between them and your brokers. Era brings your registered accounts, your non-registered account and your bank accounts together, then offers the same view to every assistant, so Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini read the same positions and the same history without you copying a figure into a chat.
Claude Personal Finance, launched by Anthropic on November 5, 2026, links US banks only and shows investments as balances rather than holdings (support.claude.com, 2026-11-05). Era does the Canadian version of that today, and it reads the holdings themselves.
What can my assistant tell me about each position?
Ask about any position and your assistant answers from the record: how many shares or units you hold, the average price you paid, your total cost, the current value and the gain or loss. You can ask about one ETF, one stock or the whole portfolio, and compare them side by side.
Some questions people ask once their holdings are connected:
- "What is my cost basis in my all-in-one ETF across all my accounts?"
- "Which holding in my TFSA has grown the most since I bought it?"
- "How much of my RRSP is in my three biggest positions?"
- "Show me every purchase I have made in this fund, oldest first."
What are tax lots, and can my assistant read them?
A tax lot is one purchase of a security: the date you bought it, how many shares and the price you paid. If you buy the same ETF in March and again in September, you hold two lots, and each has its own cost. Era keeps your lots, so your assistant can show every purchase behind a position.
That helps whenever you want to know what a sale would look like in a non-registered account, because the answer depends on the cost of the shares involved. Ask Claude to list your lots for a holding, oldest first, and it can tell you what each one cost and how long you have held it.
Can I see how a holding has grown over time?
Yes. Era records how each position moved: when you bought, when you sold and how the number of units and their value changed along the way. Ask how your holding in a fund has grown since last spring, and your assistant can describe both the money you added and the growth on top of it.
This turns a vague feeling, such as "I think I've been adding to that one for years", into a clear history, and it means Claude can set your investments' value over time beside your savings, so you see the whole of your money moving together.
Can I see the same ETF across all my accounts?
Yes. Many people hold the same ETF in a TFSA, an RRSP and a non-registered account, and each account lists it separately. Era rolls the same security up across accounts, so your assistant can tell you how much of it you own in total, what you paid on average and which account holds the most.
You can group holdings yourself as well, for example putting your index funds into a group called "core" and asking about it as one position. The grouping you set in Era is the grouping every assistant uses.
Where do my investments sit in my financial health?
Your investments are one part of a bigger picture, and Era shows them that way. Your financial health in Era draws on your cash, debts, spending and investments together, with the figures and analysis behind them, so an assistant answering a question about your TFSA can also see whether your emergency fund is in order.
That is what separates a portfolio tracker from an assistant that knows your finances. Ask whether you have room to contribute more this month, and the answer starts from your real accounts.
Which brokers can I connect to Era?
Era connects investment accounts from brokers including Wealthsimple and Questrade, alongside your banks and credit cards, so your portfolio and your cash sit in the same conversation. Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all.
If your broker is not on the list, bring in its statements. Upload a statement to your Document Library and Era reads it, pointing every value back to the page and snippet it came from, and its transactions can be imported straight into a manual account. Either way, your holdings stay up to date.
Set it up in four steps
- Create a free account at era.app.
- Connect your brokerage accounts from the list, signing in inside each broker's own screen.
- Add Era to Claude or ChatGPT as an MCP server, and approve the consent screen.
- Ask a real question, such as "what have I paid for my biggest holding?"
The step-by-step guides are in how to connect Claude to your bank account and how to connect ChatGPT to your bank account; the connection is the same for your brokers, and one connection serves both assistants.
