What AI can read in your financial documents
What AI can read in your financial documents: statements, payslips, P60s, Self Assessment papers and receipts, each value cited to its page and snippet.
AI can read your financial documents when they are in a place it can reach. In Era's Document Library it reads bank and credit card statements, payslips, leases, closing statements, tax forms such as the P60 and Self Assessment papers, receipts, invoices, bills, and investment or pension statements.
Which UK documents can Era read?
Era reads ten kinds of document: credit card statements, bank statements, payslips, leases, closing statements, tax forms, receipts, invoices, bills, and investment or retirement statements. The tax-form kind covers the UK P60 and Self Assessment papers. A document that fits none of the kinds is stored, not read.
That list covers most of the paper a UK household or sole trader handles. For particular jobs there are guides on checking a payslip, Self Assessment receipts and mortgage application documents.
What does Era pull out of each one?
Era extracts the values that matter for the kind, such as the period, the parties, the amounts and the dates, and it keeps a citation, the page and snippet, beside each value. Open the citation and you see the line the number came from.
A citation turns an answer from a claim into a record. An assistant that says your pension contribution is 5% and adds "page 1, the line under Deductions" has told you where to check, which is the difference between a useful assistant and a confident one.
How does a fact reach your assistant's memory?
An extracted value is what the document states, and it joins Era's memory when you promote it. Promote your salary or your rent and every connected assistant can answer from it. Retire the fact when it changes, and the memory follows.
This keeps the memory yours. Era doesn't decide which figures from a pile of paper become permanent; you do. What Era Context stores and how to manage it describes the rest.
Do the assistants get the files?
No. Your assistant hands Era an upload link and the file goes straight into your library; the assistant never sends the file's contents. It reads the extracted values, which is how Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and any other connected client answer from the same documents.
Documents live in your own space or a shared one. Tags are your existing tags. Share links open only for a signed-in Era user and expire. Your plan sets the number of documents and the storage; see pricing.
What can you do with the data?
Ask for totals, comparisons and checks across your documents and accounts together. Statement transactions can be imported into manual accounts, so an account with no live link still appears in your spending, and documents in a shared space are seen by the people you share with.
