Which AI assistants work with UK banks?
Which AI assistants work with UK banks? Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok compared by route, and how Era links Monzo, Starling, Barclays and more.
Any of the big AI assistants can work with your UK bank accounts through Era, because Era does the bank part and the assistant does the thinking. You approve access to your bank in your bank's own app, using open banking, and then Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok and others each connect to Era in their own way, so your current account, savings and cards sit in one hub that every assistant reads.
The table below shows the route for each assistant, and the sections after it cover how your UK bank comes into the picture, what the assistants can answer once they're connected and what stays under your control.
Which AI assistants can connect to a UK bank account?
Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, Meta's Muse, Instinct, Poke, OpenClaw and the coding assistants (Cursor, VS Code, GitHub Copilot and Claude Code) can all read your UK accounts through Era. Some use an official listing, some a server address and some an Era API key, and you approve each one yourself.
| Assistant | Route into Era | How you approve it |
|---|---|---|
| Claude | Era Context's official listing in Claude's connector directory, then Add to Claude (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| ChatGPT | Era Context's official plugin for ChatGPT and Codex (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| Perplexity | Era's official connector on Pro, Max and Enterprise plans (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| Gemini | Settings, then MCP servers, with Era's server address (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| Grok | Era's server address or an Era API key | Era's consent screen or your key |
| Meta's Muse | A Custom Connector built from Era's API documentation | An Era API key |
| Instinct | The same API-key route | An Era API key |
| Poke | Settings, Integrations, then a new template | Era's consent screen |
| OpenClaw | Settings, then MCP server configuration | Era's consent screen |
| Cursor, VS Code, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code | A configuration file in your project | Era's consent screen, or an Era API key for VS Code and GitHub Copilot |
The server address for all of them is https://context.era.app/mcp, and connect any AI assistant to your UK bank accounts has the exact snippet for each client.
How do my UK banks come into it?
You link each bank in Era through open banking, which means you sign in to your bank, choose what to share and approve it in your bank's own app, whether that's Monzo, Starling, Barclays, Lloyds, NatWest, HSBC, Santander, Nationwide or Revolut. Era never sees your bank password, and the assistant never sees it either.
Once a bank is linked, every assistant you've approved reads the same accounts. When your bank asks you to approve sharing again, you do it once in the bank's app and all of them carry on, which is a good deal easier than keeping track of a separate approval for each assistant.
What can an assistant answer once it's connected?
A connected assistant can answer from your real accounts: balances, spending by category, direct debits and other recurring payments, cash flow and forecasts, plus your financial health with the figures behind it. It can also read your investments and the documents you've added.
Hand it a payslip, a P60 or a bank statement and it reads the document and shows where on the page each number came from. In a shared space a partner or housemate sees the same figures, and on a paid plan the assistant can recategorise transactions, add tags and set rules for you.
Why use one hub for every assistant?
Because you set the access up once and each assistant stays a separate, revocable guest. The API keys page lists every assistant you've approved, and choosing Revoke cuts one off without touching any of the others or your bank link, which is a good deal tidier than juggling several logins.
Era's memory sits underneath all of them too, so a goal you give Claude on Monday, such as saving for a house deposit by next spring, is already known to ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity on Tuesday. How to set up cross-agent memory shows how to see and edit what Era remembers.
Can an assistant move my money?
Moving money between your own accounts is in private beta, it's off by default for every key, and every transfer needs your approval. Outside the private beta, an assistant can read and organise your accounts, but it can't move money anywhere.
Do I need a paid plan?
Era's Basic tier is free and gives a connected assistant read access to two manual accounts, with a Document Library starter quota. Live bank connections, which keep your balances current automatically, are a paid feature, and so is edit access for assistants.
The pricing page lists what each tier includes.
