Connect Grok to your bank accounts with Era
Connect Grok to your bank accounts with Era: add Era's server address or use an Era API key, then ask Grok about balances, spending and your financial health.
To connect Grok to your bank accounts, link your banks in Era and then give Grok a way in: Era's server address if your Grok settings let you add an MCP server, or an Era API key if you'd rather have Grok build its own connection from Era's API documentation. Grok then answers from your real balances and transactions across every bank and card you've linked.
Era is an independent company; Grok is made by xAI. Either route takes about five minutes, and both leave your bank login out of the picture, because Era holds the bank link and Grok only asks Era for answers.
How do I connect Grok to my bank account?
Link your banks in Era first, then connect Grok by whichever route your Grok offers. If it can add an MCP server, paste Era's address and approve access on Era's consent screen; if not, make an Era API key and point Grok at Era's API documentation. Both routes reach the same accounts.
- Create an Era account at era.app. The Basic tier is free.
- Link your bank. In Era, choose Connect an account, pick your bank and sign in through the connection flow (a live data connection, which is a paid feature; on Basic, add manual accounts instead). Add your credit cards and investments the same way.
- Pick a route.
- Server address. Where Grok lets you add a remote MCP server, add one with the address
https://context.era.app/mcp, then sign in to Era and approve access on the consent screen. - API key. In Era, go to Agents, then API keys, and choose Create key. Pick the shortest expiry you're happy to renew, copy the key (Era shows it only once), then ask Grok to read
https://era.app/docs/era-apiand connect to Era with the key sent in the X-API-Key header.
- Server address. Where Grok lets you add a remote MCP server, add one with the address
- Ask your first question. "What's in my checking account, and what did I spend this week?" is a good start.
An Era API key acts as your whole Era account, within the scopes you choose, so keep it private like a password. For read-only access, untick every scope whose name ends in write; to let Grok change categories, tags and rules, keep the standard set that starts ticked.
What can Grok answer once it's connected?
Grok can answer from your real accounts rather than from guesses: balances, spending by category, recurring charges, cash flow and forecasts, your financial health with the figures and analysis behind it, your holdings, and the documents you've added to Era, such as a statement or a pay stub.
Here are a few questions to try:
- "What did I spend on eating out last month, and how does that compare with the month before?"
- "List every recurring charge I'm paying for, biggest first."
- "What's my financial health, and what's pulling it down?"
- "What's in my brokerage account today?"
- "Read the pay stub I added last week and tell me what came out of it."
Reading and analysis work on every plan. With write access, Grok can also recategorize transactions, add tags and set rules, and Era keeps an edit trail so you can undo any change.
Does Grok remember what I tell it about money?
Era remembers it for Grok and for every other assistant you connect. Tell Grok "I want $40,000 saved by March", and Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini know it too the next time you open them, because the memory lives in Era instead of inside one assistant.
Everything Era has stored is on the Shared memory page, under Agents, where you can change a fact or remove it for good. How to set up cross-agent memory walks through it.
Is it safe to connect Grok to my bank?
Your bank login stays out of it, and Grok is a separate approved assistant, listed on Era's API keys page. Revoke, then Revoke key, cuts it off from its next request without touching your bank link or any other assistant.
Era encrypts your data with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit, never sells it and never uses it to train models. Moving money between your own accounts is in private beta, it's off by default for every key, and every transfer needs your approval. Is it safe to give AI your financial data covers the rest.
Which other assistants can I connect?
Every assistant reads the same hub, so you can ask Grok one question and Claude the next, and both answer from the same accounts, documents and memory. You approve each assistant on its own and can remove any of them without touching your bank link.
Connect any AI agent to your bank accounts has the route for each, and which AI assistants can connect to your bank compares them in one table.
