Use Claude and ChatGPT with the same bank data

Use Claude and ChatGPT with the same bank data: one Era hub and one shared memory. Connect both, then Gemini, Muse or Instinct, and each knows your money.

Most people who use AI for their money end up using more than one assistant: Claude for the long thinking, ChatGPT for the quick questions, perhaps Gemini because it's already on their phone. Each one starts every conversation knowing nothing. Era fixes that by being the single place they all connect to, so your accounts and what you've told them are the same everywhere.

This guide shows how to connect two assistants to one set of accounts, what they share once they're connected, and how to add a third.

Can I use Claude and ChatGPT with the same bank data?

Yes. Link your banks and cards in Era once, then connect Claude and ChatGPT to Era separately. Both read the same balances and transactions, and both read and write the same memory: your goals, preferences, categories and rules. What you tell one, the other already knows, with no copying between them.

The reason it works is that your data doesn't live in either assistant. It lives in Era, and each assistant is a window onto it. A category you fix in a Claude conversation is fixed for ChatGPT too, because there is only one ledger. Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all.

How do I connect both assistants?

Link your accounts in Era, add Era to Claude, then add Era to ChatGPT. Each assistant asks you to approve the connection on its own, so you can allow, pause or remove either one without touching the other. The whole thing takes about ten minutes, and the second connection is quicker than the first.

  1. Link your accounts in Era. Sign up at era.app; the Basic tier is free. Connecting a bank uses a live data connection, a paid feature, and on Basic you can add manual accounts instead. Era connects data from many sources, including MX, Salt Edge, Stripe Link and SnapTrade, so most banks, cards and brokerages come through the same way.
  2. Connect Claude. Connecting Claude to your bank account walks through it.
  3. Connect ChatGPT. How to connect ChatGPT to your finances does the same for ChatGPT.
  4. Tell one of them something. In Claude, say: "Remember that I'm saving for a down payment and want to keep dining out under $400 a month."
  5. Ask the other. In ChatGPT, ask: "How am I doing against my dining goal this month?" ChatGPT answers from the goal Claude saved and the transactions Era holds.

Writing to memory is a change to your Era account, so the assistant needs write access to do it. Reading works everywhere.

What do the assistants share?

They share four things: your accounts and transactions, the memory Era keeps about you, the categories, tags and rules that tidy your ledger, and the documents in your Document Library. Whichever assistant you open, it sees the same version of each, so nothing needs re-explaining.

  • Accounts and transactions. Balances, spending, recurring charges and cash flow, across every bank and card you've linked.
  • Memory. Goals, preferences, household facts and anything you've asked an assistant to remember. Ask any of them to forget something and it's gone from all of them.
  • Categories and rules. "Tag every rideshare charge as commuting" becomes a rule that keeps working between conversations, whichever assistant you used to write it.
  • Documents. Bank and card statements, payslips, tax forms, leases and receipts are read and filed in your Document Library, with each value cited to its page, so any connected assistant can answer "what did my last payslip withhold?" from the page itself. Transactions from a statement can also be brought into a manual account.
  • Financial health. Era's health figures, the metrics behind them and the analysis are there for every assistant to explain, so a question to Claude and the same question to ChatGPT start from the same numbers.

How do I see, and change, what Era remembers?

Era keeps everything it remembers about you in one list, written in plain words, and you can correct or delete any item on it. You can also ask any connected assistant to forget something, and Era removes it for all of them at once, so nothing lingers in one assistant after you've told another to drop it.

Open the Shared memory page in Era to see the list.

Era never sells your data or uses it to train models, and nobody's memory is shared with other people unless you put it in a shared space. What Era Context stores and how to manage it covers the detail.

Can I add Gemini, Muse or Instinct to the same memory?

Yes, and each one joins the same memory the moment it connects. Gemini, Perplexity, Poke, OpenClaw, Cursor, VS Code and GitHub Copilot connect to Era as an MCP server. Muse and Instinct connect through their own connector or API client, using Era's API and an Era API key that you make, set to expire and can revoke.

Setting up the two that use a key is a short job:

If you're wondering which assistants speak MCP, the table in what is MCP lists them.

Is it safe to give two assistants the same access?

It's safer than sharing a bank password, because no assistant gets your bank login. Each connects to Era with its own approval, you decide whether each can read or also change things, and you can revoke either in a moment. Revoking Claude doesn't affect ChatGPT, and your bank connections stay in place.

This matters more now that banks are writing the rules for agents. Wells Fargo's terms, from 24 November 2026, treat an AI agent's instructions as the customer's, and Chase's, from 1 January 2027, hold customers responsible for an agent's actions. A read-only connection that holds no bank login, expires when you say and ends with one revoke is a tidy answer to that. Who's liable when an AI agent uses your login goes through the wording.

Can my partner and I share it too?

Yes. A shared space in Era lets you and a partner or housemates share chosen balances, transactions and documents, each person sharing only what they pick, with a "stop everything" control for every member. Your assistants read your side of it like everything else, so "who owes whom this month?" gets answered from the ledger your partner sees too.
