Chase's AI agent terms: what changes in 2027
Chase AI agent rules: the Digital Services Agreement takes effect on 1 January 2027 and holds customers responsible for an agent's actions. What to do first.
Chase's AI agent rules are in its updated Digital Services Agreement, which takes effect on 1 January 2027 and holds customers responsible for an agent's actions. Chase has also said it does not let third parties sign in with a customer's banking credentials, and that read-only access through open-banking providers is allowed.
So the question for a Chase customer is not whether an assistant can touch your account, but how. This page covers what the agreement does, what Chase has said, and how to keep ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants working with your Chase data.
What does Chase's Digital Services Agreement say about AI agents?
The updated agreement, effective 1 January 2027, makes the customer responsible for what an AI agent does with their access. If you let an agent act on your Chase account, Chase treats what it does as your doing. The date to work to is 1 January 2027.
It lines up with Wells Fargo's approach, which starts earlier, on 24 November 2026, and adds a duty to revoke. Wells Fargo's AI agent terms shows the two side by side. Between them, they say the same thing in different words: the agent's actions are the customer's.
Does Chase allow AI agents on my account?
Chase does not allow third parties to access your account by obtaining your banking credentials. A spokeswoman said so on 13 October 2026, and said the reason was safety. Read-only access through open-banking providers is allowed. In other words, Chase accepts a view you authorise and rejects a login you share.
Jamie Dimon was blunter about the risk: "You don't want rogue agents, and it could be thousands of them." A password can't tell a careful agent from a careless one, and a read-only link doesn't need to.
Can ChatGPT or Claude see my Chase accounts?
Yes, through a read-only link that you approve in Chase's own sign-in, and not by logging in as you. Once your Chase accounts are linked in Era, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Meta's Muse can all answer questions about your Chase balances, spending and transactions, using the connection that Chase says it allows.
The assistant never sees your Chase username or password. Era holds read access, you can switch it off, and Chase sees an authorised connection from a regulated data network.
What should I do before 1 January 2027?
Remove your Chase login from anything that holds it, then link your accounts through a read-only connection. If you've ever typed your Chase credentials into an assistant, an app or a browser extension, change the password and review the apps listed in your Chase security settings. After that, connect your assistants to the link.
A short plan:
- List every assistant or app that has your Chase username and password.
- Change your Chase password.
- Link Chase in Era, signing in on Chase's pages.
- Connect Claude, ChatGPT or any other assistant to Era.
- Make any key read-only and give it an expiry date.
Connect Claude to your bank account and connect ChatGPT to your finances cover steps 4 and 5.
What do I get from Era beyond a Chase connection?
You get your whole financial picture in each assistant, plus the memory and documents around it. Chase is one of many banks you can link, so your assistant can see Chase next to your other accounts, with your financial health in figures and the analysis behind them, and statements or payslips filed in the Document Library.
Every assistant shares one memory, and you can share a space with a partner or housemates, choosing exactly what each person sees. Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all.
