Claude Personal Finance vs Era: what each one does

Claude Personal Finance vs Era compared: banks outside the US, memory across chats, financial health, holdings, shared spaces, documents and more in one view.

Claude Personal Finance and Era do different jobs, and they work well together. Claude Personal Finance, launched by Anthropic on 5 November 2026, lets Claude read your US bank accounts inside Claude. Era is one hub that every assistant connects to, with banks in 40+ countries, memory that follows you, financial health, holdings, shared spaces and your documents.

Both are read-only windows onto your money, and neither trains a model on it, so the useful question is what each one adds. This page sets the two side by side, and it is generous to Claude Personal Finance because it is a good first product. If you only want to know whether it reaches your bank, start with Claude Personal Finance, and what to add.

What is the difference between Claude Personal Finance and Era?

Claude Personal Finance is a feature inside Claude: you link US banks, and Claude answers questions and draws widgets in its own app. Era is a separate hub that sits between your accounts and every assistant you use. Claude is one of them, ChatGPT and Gemini are others, and all of them read the same accounts, memory, spaces and documents.

Can Claude Personal Finance connect banks outside the US?

No. Anthropic's help centre says you can link US banks only. Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all, so a reader in London, Toronto or Singapore, or a family with accounts in two countries, can ask Claude about every account in one conversation. A US bank and a foreign bank sit side by side.

Does Claude remember my finances between chats?

Not from the finance side. Anthropic says Claude is designed not to save anything from a finance chat to memory or search that chat later, which is a sound privacy choice and also means each chat starts fresh. Era keeps the memory on your behalf, so your emergency fund target, your goals and your preferences are there in the next Claude chat, and in ChatGPT.

How does financial health compare?

Claude Personal Finance shows spending, cash flow, subscriptions, upcoming bills and insights in widgets you can rearrange. Era adds financial health figures and shows the metrics behind each one, with the analysis that explains a change. You see why a number moved and what would move it back, and you see the same view in Claude, in ChatGPT and on your dashboard.

What about investment holdings?

Anthropic's help centre says investment accounts show balances and credit limits, and not holdings, trades, rates or terms. Era reads positions, lots and holding groups from the brokerages you connect, so the answer to "what do I own and how has it moved" comes from your portfolio. That makes questions about concentration, cost basis and allocation possible in a chat.

Can I share it with my partner or housemates?

Claude Personal Finance works on one person's accounts. Era has shared spaces: you and a partner or housemate choose which balances to share, mark a bill as paid, undo it, and split a cost. The widgets are the same views in every assistant and in a shared space, so each of you can ask your own assistant about the same household figures.

Can Claude read my bank statements?

With Era it can, through the Document Library. Upload a statement, a payslip or a tax form and Era reads it, files it and shows the page it used. Transaction import fills a manual account from a statement, so a bank that no connection reaches still ends up in your numbers. Claude, ChatGPT and the rest can then answer from those documents.

Where do they match?

Both are read-only windows onto your money, both are built so the assistant company is not training on what you share, and both ask you to choose the accounts. If you only ever use Claude, only hold US accounts, and want a quick look at your spending, Claude Personal Finance is a fine place to start. Era is the version for when the rest of your life shows up.

Which one should I use?

Use Claude Personal Finance if you hold only US accounts and live in Claude. Use Era if you have accounts outside the US, use more than one assistant, share money with someone, keep your documents in the picture, or want your financial health explained. Many people do both, and Claude can read Era as well, so the two sit happily together. How to connect Claude to your bank account shows the setup.
