Is Meta's Muse safe with your bank login?

Meta Muse and your bank: is it safe to give Muse your login? Why Schwab blocks it and Amazon did, and the read-only key route that keeps your password out.

Giving Meta's Muse your banking password is the one thing the banks that have commented say not to do. Schwab blocks Muse, Amazon blocked it on 20 September 2026, and several banks now make customers answerable for what an agent does. Muse is safe to use with your money when it reads through a read-only key and never holds your login.

Muse launched in the US on 8 September with a built-in bank link, which is why so many people are asking. This page covers what the concern is, what the banks have said, and a route that gives Muse your balances without giving it your password.

Is Meta Muse safe to use with my bank account?

Muse is safe with your bank account when it reads your accounts through a connection that is read-only, that you approved in your bank's own sign-in and that you can cancel. It is not safe to type a banking login into any assistant, Muse included. The assistant is not the issue here. The password is.

A password gives whoever holds it everything you can do on the bank's website, and the bank can't tell the assistant from you. That's the reasoning behind every bank statement on the subject, and it holds whichever assistant is involved.

Why does Schwab block Muse?

Schwab's chief executive, Rick Wurster, said Schwab is blocking unauthorized agents and named Muse in particular: "We don't want someone just giving their password to Muse… who's liable?" Schwab has also said it will let clients connect their own assistants to its own MCP servers, so its objection is to the password route.

For a Schwab customer, that means a password-based Muse link will be refused. A read-only route through Era works without Muse ever seeing the Schwab login. Does your bank have an MCP server says more about Schwab's plans.

Why did Amazon block Muse?

Amazon blocked Muse on 20 September 2026, which showed that the concern isn't limited to banks. A shopping site and a bank reached the same view: they would rather not have an agent act as a customer without the company knowing how and for whom. Both want a route they can recognise and the customer can limit.

What this tells you is that a login-based assistant is a fragile thing to build on. It can stop working whenever a company changes its mind, while a read-only link approved through the front door keeps working because it is the thing they accept.

Who is liable if Muse uses my bank login?

You are, under the terms banks are writing. Wells Fargo's from 24 November 2026 treat an agent's instructions as yours, and Chase's from 1 January 2027 hold customers responsible for an agent's actions. Bank of America tells customers that shared credentials make them responsible for the activity.

Who's liable when an AI agent uses your login has the detail.

It is a good reason to keep Muse on a key that can only read. A read-only key can't act as you, so there is nothing done in your name to answer for, and revoking it ends Muse's access from its next request.

How can Muse see my accounts without my password?

Link your banks in Era, make an Era API key and give it to Muse as a Custom Connector. Muse then answers from your real balances and transactions across every account you linked, and the setup takes a few minutes.

You sign in to each bank on its own pages through a regulated data network, so your login never reaches Era or Muse, and the key can be read-only, set to expire and revoked at any time.

Muse's built-in bank link and the Era connector can sit side by side. The difference is where your work lives. A category Muse fixes through Era is still there when you open Claude or ChatGPT, since every assistant connected to Era shares one memory and one set of accounts. The full walkthrough is how to connect Meta's Muse to your bank accounts.

What else do I get by going through Era?

You get one hub that every assistant uses, so Muse, Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini all see the same accounts. You also get your financial health in figures with the analysis behind them, statements and payslips in the Document Library, and shared spaces for a partner or housemates.
